Last week in class we focused on Oedipus the King and it helped me
begin thinking about the themes and overall idea of tragedy.
It was interesting to learn about the Greek God's and their perceptions
on how people should live day by day and not so much for the future.
Oedipus made that mistake clearly and ended up living an unhappy life sadly
fulfilling what the God's had expected. Oedipus’s fate was in the hands of the gods,
and after they revealed the message of his crazy future, his parents wanted to change
it and make the best for him. But instead of helping him as they intended, they only
furthered his downfall. Everyone has their own destiny and everything happens for a reason,
because in the end it will all find its place and work out, one way or another. As I think
about my own future in this crazy time of Transition from high school to college I wonder
how each days event's will outplay and I remember that I t need to maintain my focus, and as
cliché as it sounds, live in the moment. I personally strongly believe that fulfilling each
On another note it was quite coincidental studying tragedy while the San Bruno
fire occurred because that is something no one would have ever expected. It’s unfamiliar to have
such a devastating event hit so close to home because you only hear about events similar
to this occurring around the world, and you don't comprehend the full seriousness of the situation,
and that it really could happen to anyone. Studying tragedy and dealing with all the current issues
in our society can greatly increase a person’s need to live each day, day by day because you
never know what’s going to happen in the future.
